DEBRA UK, the national charity, and patient support organisation for people living with EB, is asking the British public to get behind its latest fundraising campaign and BE the difference for EB.

Last year was a pivotal year for the charity as it brought EB to the public’s attention when Vice President, Graeme Souness, DEBRA UK member, Andy Grist, and a team of four swam the English Channel to raise awareness and funding to help stop the pain of EB.

The channel swim helped DEBRA UK achieve its fundraising target but there is still much to do.

Commenting on the launch of the new fundraising campaign for 2024, DEBRA UK Vice President Graeme Souness said:

“Last year I, along with 5 of my crazy friends were spurred on to swim the English Channel to raise awareness of EB and funding for DEBRA UK. We did it, we made it to the shores of France and raised over £1.5m and I am still humbled by the thousands of people who backed me and the team.

“I want to do more though; I need to do more as people like my friend Isla are still suffering everyday due to this cruel condition.

“Thanks to the support received in 2023, DEBRA UK started their drug repurposing journey, but they need continued support, there are more drugs they need to test, and the EB community needs help today including specialist mental health counselling, grants for specialist products that can alleviate their EB symptoms, and financial support to ensure they can attend their vital healthcare appointments.

“Please join me in continuing the journey to stop the pain of EB. Together we can raise the funding needed to improve quality of life for people living with EB TODAY, and secure effective drug treatments for every type of EB for TOMORROW.

“Together we can BE the difference for EB. Thank you.”
